About this unit
This unit on Crime Analysis and Investigation provided by Open Universities Australia in association with Griffith University, is designed to familiarise students with the processes and techniques involved in analysing and solving a variety of different crimes.
The relationship between crime and place is a dominant theme throughout this unit, and will enable students to arrive at a better understanding of the way criminals and their networks function. Students will learn how to apply a systematic framework to crime analysis, and will delve into more specific topics that explore crimes and their consequences from all angles. Topics include looking at the victim’s standpoint, the environments and issues involved, and the workings of the offender.
By examining these theoretical underpinnings of crime, students will be able to make informed and tactical decisions, and know which type of intervention best suits a scenario. By the end of the unit, the student should have the skills needed to continue pursuing a career in crime analysis.
