About this unit
Designed as an introductory look into the complex field of forensic psychology, this online unit from Open Universities Australia in partnership with Griffith University, examines the various domains of expertise that forensic psychologists are required to call upon.
Introduction to Forensic Psychology covers a broad range of topics, from eyewitness testimony and false allegations through to offender profiling and jury decision-making. The unit examines the various ways in which psychologists interact with the criminal justice system, and aims to highlight the use and impact of psychology assessments on court proceedings, police operations and prisons.
By addressing the various theories of crime, and the psychological behaviour of offenders, the unit attempts to highlight the way in which these assessments can be both useful and limiting to the criminal justice system.
Such knowledge would prove useful to psychologists looking to specialise in criminology, but would also be helpful to any professionals who work within, or have regular contact with, the criminal justice system.
