About this unit
This online News Writing and Ethics unit from Open Universities Australia and Griffith University provides students with the essential skills for researching and producing news in different genres and for a range of media. Students also examine the ethical issues faced by today’s journalists, and how these are applied to their own work.
Through a combination of written work and online discussion, students analyse different theories and implications of journalistic ethics through the framework of the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) Code of Ethics.
The unit focuses on teaching a range of writing styles and techniques; personal judgement in information gathering; the gender and race politics inherent in news making; relationships between mass media and other institutions and critical reflection. These skills are essential for those seeking to enter the media industry in any capacity.
