About this unit
Understanding Contemporary Societies employs a broad scope, drawing together theories and methodologies from across the discipline of sociology into an online unit that will reinforce key concepts and enable deeper understanding of the field.
Offered for online study by Open Universities Australia and Macquarie University, this unit unpacks the complexities of classifying and analysing contemporary societies, examining the labels modern, postmodern and traditional as well as a variety of more specific group-targeted approaches.
Using theoretical and empirical knowledge, you will explore concepts of gender, economy, public life and everyday life in the context of contemporary societies.
