Offered by The Gordon, this Certificate II in EAL (Access) (22251VIC) course is ideal for anyone with a non-English speaking background, looking to develop their English speaking, writing, listening and reading skills.
Studying this on-campus TAFE course, you will cover writing narrative texts using simple descriptive language, engaging in simple conversations and transactions, and giving and responding to verbal information and directions.
This EAL certificate course will also look at providing you with an overview of Australian culture and society, as well as employment and living skills, so your studies can tie into your everyday life in Australia.
Upon enrolment, your English level will be assessed so you’re placed in a course suitable to your study needs and surrounded by students at a similar stage in their learning.

To be eligible for this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:
- Be an adult student from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community, and a permanent resident of Australia
- Be interviewed and assessed by a trained ESL teacher to determine your language level.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be available for skills and knowledge obtained through previous study or other relevant experience.

The Gordon Library and study support team is on hand to provide personalised assistance with everything from essay writing to note-taking, and also includes an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program for non-native English speakers. Tailored services are also available via the Aboriginal Education Unit and Disability Support Services offices. Career guidance can be sought from the Careers team at any time, and for anyone struggling with personal hardship, a free and confidential counselling service is available at both the Geelong City campus and East campus.
