You’ll be introduced to the social theories that explain human psychology, behaviour and identity, and the Australian mental health context, and receive significant opportunity to explore the relationship between counselling models and counselling in practice, with a 60-hour industry placement included in this course. Counselling client contact constitutes 45 hours, allowing you substantial time to develop your listening skills, ability to empathise and reflect, and your understanding of the ethics and critical theory of counselling in practice.
You’ll also be introduced to the skills of project management and case management required to work in counselling, offering you a competitive professional advantage after graduation.
Workload and assessment
In order to succeed in your studies, each subject in this course requires a combination of 120 hours of structured and self-directed learning, which equates to about 10 hours a week over 12-week trimesters.
