The HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care, offered by the Australian Paramedical College, is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required for a successful career in pre-hospital healthcare. This comprehensive course prepares individuals to deliver exceptional emergency care, whether they aspire to work as a Medic, Paramedic, or in other related roles. Throughout the course, participants will engage in a variety of learning areas, including scene management, patient assessment, and advanced life support techniques. With the guidance of experienced instructors and access to hands-on clinical experiences, students will develop the confidence and competence needed to excel in the dynamic field of emergency health care.

Graduates of the HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care will possess a robust foundation for further studies or immediate employment in various healthcare settings. This qualification not only opens pathways to becoming a registered paramedic but also allows for diverse career opportunities in sectors such as event medical services, private sector medic roles, and more. This course is delivered online and includes two 5-day clinical workshops at either the APC HQ in Burleigh Heads, Queensland, or in APC dedicated training locations in Hurstville NSW, North Lake WA, or Noble Park North VIC.

160 hours of clinical work placement is also required.

To apply you must:

  • Age: Be at least 16 years of age (parental consent required if under 18)
  • Education: At least year-10 high-school or equivalent
  • Residency: Be an AUS/NZ citizen, AUS PR, or hold an approved temporary visa
  • Driver’s license: Hold a current driver’s license
  • Technology: Have regular access to a computer and internet, and be comfortable with online study and assessments

Pre-intake checks

  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy: Short quiz to check basic English and math skills, and help us better support you through your course
  • Health: Medical declaration to ensure you are fit to study

Clinical Workshops, prior to the time of booking

  • Australian students must hold current and verified HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 – Provide CPR. New Zealand students must hold Comprehensive First Aid NZQA Standards – 6402, 6401, 6400 and First Aid Revalidation

Clinical Placement, prior to the time of booking

  • Australian students may be required to hold evidence of National Police clearance and a Working with Children’s Check. New Zealand students may be required to the equivalent.
