The SIRSS00030 Introduction to Community Pharmacy Skill Set, offered by Gateway Training Academy, is designed to equip participants with essential skills for a successful career as pharmacy assistants. This course focuses on key areas such as customer engagement, work health and safety, and the effective support of pharmacy operations. It is tailored for both newcomers to the field and those already working as pharmacy assistants, providing practical, job-ready training that aligns with industry standards.

Throughout the course, participants will learn to assist with the supply of pharmacy medicines under the supervision of a pharmacist, complete pharmacy sales, and deliver exceptional customer service. The training ensures that learners are well-prepared to contribute confidently to the daily operations of a community pharmacy, enhancing their ability to meet customer needs and support the overall health and wellbeing of the community. Graduates will receive a Statement of Attainment, which forms part of the SIR30116 Certificate III in Community Pharmacy, allowing them to further develop their knowledge and skills in this vital sector. Please Note: This course is FEE FREE for students eligible for government funding under the Jobs & Skills WA Program. This course is NOT available to people on 500 or 600 visas.

This course has no specific academic prerequisites.

Students are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – assistance is available – along with photo identification, and meet the necessary language, literacy, and numeracy standards.

  • SIRXCEG008 – Manage disrespectful, aggressive or abusive customers
  • HLTWHS001 – Participate in workplace health and safety
  • SIRCINF001 – Use pharmacy practices for infection control
  • SIRCIND001 – Work effectively in a community pharmacy
  • SIRCIND002 – Support the supply of Pharmacy Medicines and Pharmacist Only Medicines
