Definition of a Logistics Analyst

A Logistics Analyst uses data to cut supply chain costs and improve service. They work at the crossover of business strategy and operational data. The role calls for strong analysis skills and sound business sense.

Core tasks include studying freight and stock data, building supply chain models, and sharing findings with senior staff. Analysts use tools such as SAP, Oracle, and Power BI. They work with procurement, operations, and finance teams to link logistics strategy with business goals.

Entry to the role typically needs a degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field. A Bachelor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management is one common path. Some also hold a Graduate Certificate or Master of Supply Chain Management. Membership with CILT Australia (the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport) is well regarded.
