A Concrete Pump Operator uses specialised plant to pump and position concrete with precision on construction sites. The role is classified under ANZSCO code 712915 within the construction industry. Operators must hold a valid High Risk Work Licence to legally operate boom pumps.
Entry into the field typically involves completing unit CPCCON3056 (Conduct Concrete Pump Delivery Operations) at a registered training organisation. Boom pump operators also need to complete unit CPCCLBM3001 to operate a concrete placing boom. They then apply for an HRW PB class licence with their state Work Health and Safety regulator. Both licences are nationally recognised and valid for five years.
On site, operators set up pumping equipment and run hoses to the pour area. They deliver concrete to specified locations such as foundations, pools, and retaining walls. They conduct pre- and post-shift checks, maintain log books, and report any faults to supervisors.
