Assessors use approved rating software to check a home’s design, insulation, and fixed appliances. They write a clear report with ranked advice for improving the home’s NatHERS star rating. Their work turns data into real, doable steps for clients.
NatHERS (Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme) is the main national framework for this work. Assessors need the Certificate IV in Home Energy Efficiency and Sustainability (CPP41126). They must also sign up with an approved body, such as ABSA. This cert is the base level required across all Australian states and territories.
The sector is growing fast. The 2022 National Construction Code raised the NatHERS bar for new homes to 7 stars. This drove fast growth in demand for assessors. The Australian Government plans to extend NatHERS to existing homes. This is set to be the biggest growth in this work since NatHERS began (NatHERS, 2025).
