The CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services, offered by InterCare Training, is a nationally recognised qualification for people who want to build a meaningful career in the community services sector. The course is designed for those with no prior experience and covers the core skills needed to support individuals with complex needs, promote independence and wellbeing, and work within ethical, legal, and culturally safe frameworks. Delivered online and in-person in Adelaide, the course takes a minimum of six months to complete and is available in day or night classes.
Across 15 units — seven core and eight elective — students explore a broad range of learning areas relevant to community services work. Key topics include person-centred service planning, working with diverse people, recognising and responding to domestic and family violence, supporting people with disability support needs, mental health awareness, palliative care approaches, and promoting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety. No work placement is required to complete the qualification, with practical skills developed through supervised lab days and simulated activities instead.
Graduates of the CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services may go on to work as community support workers, case workers, outreach workers, or client support coordinators across community organisations, non-government organisations, and disability or aged care programs. The qualification also provides a pathway into further study, such as the Diploma of Community Services. InterCare Training supports students through a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and pre-training review before enrolment, and alumni gain priority access to employment services post-graduation.
