A Chartered Accountant (CA) is a qualified financial professional. CAs provide audit, tax, and advisory services to businesses of all sizes. In Australia, the CA title is awarded by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ).
Earning the CA takes real work and focus. Candidates complete an accredited bachelor degree first. Then they enrol in the CA Program, which leads to the Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting (GradDipCA). They also do at least three years of guided hands-on work while studying.
CAs work across many sectors. These include public accounting, corporate finance, banking, government, and not-for-profit roles. Many progress to senior roles such as Chief Financial Officer or Finance Director with experience.
Accountant jobs in Australia grew by 6.2% in the year to November 2024 (Jobs and Skills Australia). The CA title puts professionals in line for higher pay and faster career growth. Demand across Australia remains strong and growing.
