Frequently Asked Questions
Can you do a university degree fully online?
Yes, many university qualifications can be completed fully online through Australian universities. Options range from Bachelor's Degrees to Graduate Diplomas, delivered by universities alongside TAFEs and RTOs offering related online study. Some courses use a blended format with limited on-campus attendance, so check each listing to confirm whether it's fully online or blended before enrolling.
What is the best online university in Australia?
There isn't a single best online university, since the right fit depends on your goals, chosen field and preferred study mode. Providers such as Torrens University Australia, Edith Cowan University Online, UNSW Online and UTS Online all deliver online courses across areas like IT, psychology, business and nursing. Comparing course structure, duration and outcomes helps you find the course that suits you best.
How long does an online university course take to complete?
Online university course durations vary by qualification level, ranging from around eight months for some Graduate Certificates to up to eight years for part-time Bachelor's Degrees. A Graduate Diploma can take anywhere from about eight to 16 months, while Bachelor's Degrees typically run two to four years full-time. Part-time study extends these timeframes, so check each course listing for exact details.
What can you study online at university level?
You can study a wide range of subjects online at university level, including psychology, counselling, mental health, business, IT, cybersecurity, nursing and creative fields like animation and game design. Graduates from these areas often move into roles connected to counselling, mental health support or psychology, among other pathways depending on the course chosen. Online study modes are offered by universities, TAFEs and RTOs.
Are online university courses government-funded?
Government funding depends on the provider and the state you're in. Some online university courses are government-funded or subsidised, while others aren't, and this varies by qualification and provider. You can see funding details listed against each course on this page, or enquire directly with the provider to check your eligibility before you apply.
